President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris announced on Sunday that they have selected an all-female communications team to work for the administration, the first time in history that the senior communications roles in the White House will be filled entirely by women.

“Communicating directly and truthfully to the American people is one of the most important duties of a President, and this team will be entrusted with the tremendous responsibility of connecting the American people to the White House,” Biden said in a statement.

“These qualified, experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to building this country back better,” he added.

President-elect Joe Biden said Jen Psaki, a former White House communications director, will be his press secretary, one of seven women named to top communications roles Sunday.

Ms. Psaki, who has been overseeing the confirmation process for the transition, served in several top roles in the Obama administration, including as State Department spokeswoman.

President-elect Joe Biden turned to two Obama administration veterans on Sunday to head up his White House’s communications strategy and serve as its public face.

Kate Bedingfield, who served as Biden’s communications director while he was vice president and on his presidential campaign, will be the White House communications director. And Jen Psaki, who served as White House communications director for the last two years of President Barack Obama’s administration, will be Biden’s White House press secretary.

Biden rounded out his White House communications staff with five other women — the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women, Biden's transition noted in its announcement.

President-elect Joe Biden has named Jen Psaki as the public face of his incoming administration.

Prior to accepting the high-profile role of press secretary, Psaki was former President Barack Obama's communications director and is the lead press liaison for the Biden transition.

"Honored to work again for @JoeBiden, a man I worked on behalf of during the Obama-Biden Admin as he helped lead economic recovery, rebuilt our relationships with partners (turns out good practice) and injected empathy and humanity into nearly every meeting I sat in," she tweeted.
